Ways To Keep Your Hair Healthy

Here Are Four Ways To Keep Your Hair Healthy

  2. Take a Good Vitamin

  3. Brush Your Hair Regularly

  4. Use a Good PH Balanced Shampoo

How Does Hair Conditioners Work?

Hair pH and Conditioners

The purpose of a hair conditioner is to change the ph of the hair and make it soft.

The outside layer of the hair, which is called the cuticle layer, opens with just the use of water. When shampoo or chemicals are used the cuticle layer expands even more causing the outer layer to become vulnerable to breakage.

The purpose of the conditioner is to close and compact the outer layer (lower the ph).

When applying any chemical service on the hair such as color, relaxing, and perming, the ph of hair changes drastically; the cuticle layer expands and can be broken, cracked, or chipped off. To prevent damage or breakage, it's important to balance the hair's ph and compact the outer layer after any chemical has been used on the hair. Immediately!
There are many different types of conditioners to use after a chemical service, but they all have the same purpose, to bring hair back to its original ph 4.5 - 5.5, and to close the cuticle layer of the hair.

Before applying the conditioner to the hair, your ultimate goal is to make sure all the chemical has been removed from the hair. No residue or trace of any product should be left on the hair, not even shampoo.

Because most chemical services are Alkaline and most conditioners are acid, the conditioner will neutralize the level of alkaline to bring the hair back to its balanced ph

The Best Hair Care Tip For Healthy, Shiny Hair

When asking, “What is the best hair care tip for healthy, shiny hair?”

The answer would have to be, hands-down, BRUSHING!

There are only a few great hair brushes that are excellent for the hair, the Natural Bristles and Mixed Bristles. Using natural bristles for hair brushing is most healthy and when you have extremely thick hair there is an option for you, the mixed bristles.

  • Boar or Horsehair Bristle Brush: Made from actual boar (pig) hair and horsehair. The bristles are somewhat soft and is used for thin to medium - fine hair. Boar/horsehair bristle brushes can attract and remove dirt from the hair strands without damaging the hair. These types of brushes also stimulate the scalp to distribute the oils on the hair. Boar/horsehair bristle brushes also help to gently keep the cuticle layer of the hair smooth and healthy. The brush handles are usually made from wood. Be careful when cleaning these brushes.

  • Synthetic Bristle Brush: Made mostly from nylon or polyester. The bristles are stronger then the natural hair bristles and can help de-tangle dry hair.

  • Mixed Bristle Brush: Made from a combination of both natural and synthetic bristles. These brushes are ideal for any type of hair, but especially for super thick hair. The benefits are de-tangling the hair, and reaching down to the scalp, with the nylon bristles, to help stimulate the scalp and the natural hair bristles distributes oil when other brushes can’t. The type of mixed bristle brush I like the most is the cushioned brush (shown above).

Beauty in Watching Your Grandchildren Grow.

Beauty in All Things

I know this post is not about hair, but I believe there is beauty in all things. I spent a great day with my grandchildren and just wanted to share how it reminded me that time is precious and children grow up so fast.
Watching my grandchildren grow is such a beautiful treasure.

What Is The Essence of Beauty?

There is nothing more rare, nor beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection.

To me that is the true essence of beauty.

Electrolysis Started My Business

How I Started My Business

I started my business with Electrolysis, in my home, as soon as I graduated from getting my Certificate in Electrolysis Training. My son was not into school yet, and I was building my clientele, little by little. When my son went off to school, I started searching for a place to put my beauty salon.

I opened the beauty salon in December of 1995, specializing in electrolysis, hair removal, and complete family hair care. My business grew quickly. Each year I tried to introduce and master a different product or technique, such as:
I was involved in our local Business and Professional Women's Foundation and went to annual hair shows in different places to keep up with the latest trends. This is where I got a lot of ideas for my clients.

When my son was in high school, I started substituting at the local Vocational school to get teaching experience.

Starting Cosmetology in Vo-Tech.

My Education in Cosmetology Started in Vo-Tech.

After being in school for three years my desire, at the time, was to be a cosmetology instructor. I watched my instructor and thought, I really could make this more fun. This career is such a fun career. I thought in the back of my mind; I would love to teach this.

I became a mom very young in life, actually while I was a senior in high school. I knew how important it was to finish my schooling and in Pennsylvania 1250 hour were required to take the state board Cosmetology exam.  I took my test within the year I graduated. To become a cosmetology instructor in Pennsylvania 500 hours of extra training is required.

Seven years after graduating, I took my instructor training and got my Cosmetology Teacher license. The school I attended for my instructor hours also offered an Electrolysis class. I took that class and became a certified electrologist.

After graduating from my electrology course, I immediately became certified and began doing electrolysis in my home. When my son went off to school, I opened a beauty salon that offered cosmetology services to the whole family.
